Online gambling site owner believed dead over Bitcoin ransom payment

An online gambling executive, William Creighton, who ran sports books from Costa Rica, disappeared last September 2018 and is believed to be dead. His car was found abandoned and his wife reported him missing a day later. He was never located. His wife informed the police that the night before, she had received a demand for $750,000 in Bitcoin in ransom payment for his safe return by alleged kidnappers and had made the payment online to an unknown wallet address. She then heard nothing from the alleged kidnappers.

On Januray 11th 2019, 10 people were arrested in Costa Rica and one in Spain in connection with Creighton’s dissapearance. Three have been charged with the murder of Creighton.
